Or, better yet, let’s THING some fabrics! Last week we went to the L.A. Textile show to look for some cool sustainable materials to play with. We had fun walking around the booths and meeting new people. Can’t wait to see what we can come up with!
Let’s build a fort!

Barnaby Barford
March 15th, 2010 by LIGER+
+
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Barnaby Barford, he is a magical artist who makes the most beautiful porcelain sculptures I have ever seen. He graduated from the Royal College of Art in London and has worked with prestigious companies including Nymphenburg as well as creating his one-off pieces. (shown here)
“Damaged Goods was commissioned by Animate Projects and shown on Channel 4 in 2008. It explores notions of forbidden love, materialism and class divisions with an unexpected twist. For David Gill Galleries, Barford has re-created nine scenes from the film. “I have taken these characters from conception through the journey of making the film and finally back into being static, stand alone characters,” he says.” -W*

Jack Featherstone: Quilt
March 15th, 2010 by LIGER

Jack Featherstone’s work is marked by boldness, colour and visually striking forms. In his project Quilt, he created a template for a one-hour animation to work as a visual projection to accompany two DJs’ live shows and warehouse parties.
‘Simplicity and geometry play a really important part in my work at the moment. I am fascinated by form, shape and colour and with the quest to get to the fundamental core of them. In Quilt, which was an animated visual, I was trying to show that representational imagery must to be kept to a minimum so as not to take the audience away from the music.’

THING <3s NYC
March 8th, 2010 by LIGERSneak Preview from my trip to MOMA. Some of you may already know that part of THING is in NYC at the moment. No, it’s not because I’m special (yeahhhh, I know what you’re thinking), but because I had BUSINESS to take care. YEP. Serious business. I don’t just throw that word around lightly either. I feel like the guys in Madmen, pouring my whiskey shot then walking into a serious meeting. The “thing” (he he… cheap-shot) is, it’s hard NOT to notice the visual inspiration around every corner, animate or inanimate, that covers every square inch of this kooky city. I’m wondering if THING should move our spacehub to NYC? If you have any thoughts about this, you know I’m all ears, em, eyes, em, fingers, em.. whatever it is I feel like. Maybe it will be a pickle that day. Who knows? But back to the point, here is a little taste of what I saw at MOMA. Can you believe it’s $20 to get in there?? I think London spoiled me with her free museum stuff.
On a side note, there was this awesome video installation happening corresponding with the new show on at the MET called The Nose. Looked and sounds really great. I wanted to go tonight but it was sold out aside from the over a zillion dollar seats. Here’s a promo video similar to the ones playing at MOMA.
